Project (The brief you are writing for):

Style Matrix World of Warcraft Diorama

Summary (Brief Summary of processes involved in Concepting/Modelling/Unwrapping/Texturing/Engine):

Our first project of third year was the Style Matrix, where we were to select 3 different briefs from a selection of styles and categories with the aim of choosing things we would like to experiment with or spend some time learning to help with our FMP. Each individual project had a duration of 3 weeks and at the end of the total 9 weeks we had 1 extra week to use to polish all 3 of the projects where necessary.

For this project in particular I chose to do a stylised environment, and as I am a big World of Warcraft inspired fan, I absolutely had to do the World of Warcraft diorama brief. The brief was very broad and simply specified that the diorama must look as though it fits into the WoW universe, having a key point (mine being the house) and smaller decorations like grass and trees etc. I chose to create an area inspired by the Mists of Pandaria expansion, and created a small farm house diorama.

Conclusion:

My main aim for this project was to single-handedly create an environment and familiarise myself better with the process and engine. At the same time I was able to practice my hand-painted texturing skills to test my abilities to create nice assets without the use of PBR and fancy effects. Although I am happy with the outcome of this diorama, I do feel like it is lacking something, perhaps an area of high contrast such as a pond, and I would definitely look into this had I of had more time to improve and add to the project.
