This week has been mainly filled with texturing and finally putting my model into the engine, which ended up taking a lot longer than I had planned. After a review with my tutor, I decided to step away from the mud for a while and begin working on other textures and come back to the mud later, I was definitely over-thinking the mud and wasting a lot of time on it without any results.

I moved on to next texture the tree, which was one of the main elements in the diorama. This was something that I was able to get done quite quickly, as i have made quite a few trees now and it was a good change of pace in comparison to ground textures. I used a mixture of photoshop and 3D coat to texture my assets as I quite like being able to paint directly on top of a model, however I miss the customisation that photoshop offers, particularly when it comes to brushes, so tend to switch between the two.

After texturing the tree I spent quite a while texturing the house - the other main asset. In hindsight I wish that I would have put more detail into the house; I was not too happy with how it came out as I felt it was too simple, and tried to fix this with texturing, but unfortunately I don't think that it helped very much. I was trying to follow the style of houses used in world of warcraft in the area I had chosen, however I think it might have been more wise to do something a bit more extravagant for this project.

After these assets were done, I was able to move back to the ground texturing as I felt I had had a sufficient enough break, so moved on to this next. Luckily it came out a lot better this time, I chose to go for a softer brush and I was much happier with the results, as before I felt the textures looked too strong and rocky.

After this was completed, I finished all of my assets and added some ground detailing and final tweaks such as resizing the assets to make the island look slightly bigger, and here is the final result!

I will be adding more images of my final outcome in the next "hand-in" blog post that you can find after this one.

Overall, I think i could have done more on this project, the island is quite simple and I wish I had given it larger shapes and a more exiting story. I don't think that I reached my full potential, but it was a nice project to get me back into the swing of things in preparation for the next two projects. I am hoping to create quite nice portfolio pieces using the next upcoming projects, so I hope that I can really push myself to create good outcomes that I am proud of.
