Third Year!

I thought I should probably make an introduction post for my third year of University instead of jumping straight into posts on my current projects, because that might be a bit confusing.

After quite a long break, (5 months), I'm now back and will be completing my final year at DMU. Over the Summer I had hoped to build on my portfolio quite a lot, but unfortunately my part-time Summer job was not quite as part time as I'd hoped meaning there wasn't a great deal I could do, but I did manage to practice some drawing and research up some new techniques and methods for modelling which should be useful - I hope!

Compared to other years, third year is quite different; from the start of the year until Christmas we have 9 weeks to complete three briefs from a variety of categories in a "Skill Matrix" setup, so that we can select areas we wish to explore or refine in, creating nice portfolio pieces and hopefully giving more insight on what we'd like to do for our final major project after Christmas. We currently do not have any formal classes but often there is tutors around the labs during scheduled times if we need any help, our final year is to be very self directed but we have been informed that we will be given periodic reviews and feedback throughout the duration of this project.

I am still quite undecided as to what I'd like to specialise in, I know that I want it to be 3D, but I often alternate between environments and characters, so I think I will do a few of these in this time period to help me come to a final decision. Some of the project briefs that can be chosen from have already captured my attention and I am very excited to get back to work!
