Yr2 Christmas Holidays: Tidying up the Sentry Gun

Christmas was a bit hectic, I had to travel a lot meaning I only had my laptop rather than my PC, so i wasn't able to do as much work as I'd planned. However, I am quite happy I managed to finish my model before Christmas, this gave me any time I had spare to polish up and change my sentry gun where needed.

I managed to find enough time to texture the plinth/stand which I had made to demonstrate the kind of location which my sentry gun would be placed in. I am not 100% happy with the texture, as it was slightly rushed and I had to cope with one shared texture sheet for the entire model, but despite this I think that it helps to give a feeling to the gun and adds to the environment as a nice simple extra touch.

After I had finished texturing my temple, I imported the gun and the temple in to engine. As I had already previously figured out how to work the blueprints, all that I had left to do was to change the firing animations and to create ammunition projectiles.

I chose to create very simple bullets and bullet shells for my projectiles, as I did not want anything overly fancy like a laser, as my model is meant to be somewhat low-tech (made out of stone except for the internal mechanisms). I am not entirely happy with the particle effect of the firing animation, but this is something I aim to look into in the future in more depth.

As a bonus I have added a little GIF of my turret firing :)

I will be doing a full write-up of my project in the next blog post.
